August is the month of…….
We have had a very hot, and humid summer so far and do not expect August to be any different. Since we have had Heat Advisory Alerts for so many days, I thought it would be a good idea to include some tips for Heat safety.
- do not leave children and/or pets in a locked car or truck
- make sure everyone is hydrated (plenty of fluids for everyone)
- try to stay in the shade
- limit trips outside (time and length)
- recognize dangers of heat exhaustion/heat stroke
As things wind down with our Summer Reading Program, we hope that everyone enjoyed the activities and reading from young to old. Perhaps we have encouraged some new life time readers. I can remember having my own library card and walking to the local library and searching out books to read. The librarian always had a smile and a comment on how quickly I had finished “all those books.” I took to carrying a paper bag (doubled) to tote my books back and forth. I remember hurrying home because I didn’t want to wait another moment to dig into my new books.
Please check out our Summer Reading Program pictures (under Kids Korner) and see how much fun Ms. Deb and Mr. Fox are having with our Super Hero Readers!
And remember… August is the month of National Eye Exam Month, National Catfish Month, National Golf Month, National Peach Month, National Family Fun Month, and National Water Quality Month to name just a few! Enjoy the last month of summer and as always, pick up a book and READ!
