Thank you Luann Rottmann and the Friends of the Library! Looks like some fun times ahead for the Havelock Library.
April brings showers and taxes and National Library Week! The theme of National Library Week ( April 8-14) this year is “Libraries Lead”. Libraries have a strong history of leading communities toward better things. These include better jobs for patrons, better literacy, better opportunities to gather and share interests and ideas. Remember to thank any of the helpful staff who work at our library during this special week.
During the month of April there is an egg-scellent poetry contest for patrons of all ages. Choose your egg at the library. Inside each egg are five words that you must include in your poetry. Paste the words in the poem (similar to old fashion ransom notes!). Submit your original poetry with the required form at the circulation desk. Judging will occur on April 27th.
And from April 9-27, the Havelock Craven County Public Library and Craven Community College are partnering together to foster the love of reading by launching a volunteer mentoring program called Reading Buddies. The program matches 14-17 year old in the Craven Early College East High School program with children in preschool to grade 4. The goal of our early college volunteers is to make a difference, gain volunteer experience and have fun! The volunteer young people will be available to read to their buddies during the month of April on Mondays from 4-5 pm, Wednesdays from 4-5 pm, and Fridays from 3-4 pm in the Havelock-Craven County Public Library. Parents who register will receive a scheduled time to meet with their child’s teen reading buddy. The parent must stay in the library, but if they feel comfortable that may use the library’s resources while the new buddies are reading together. Contact the library to sign up at 252-447-7509.
Watch for the Friends of the Library’s latest and perhaps, greatest, raffle basket coming in MAY. It is a super duper picnic basket just in time for Memorial Day picnics.
