Here is some news from the Friends of the Library:
The Friends of the Library are proud to announce that they are the recipient of a grant from the Cherry Point Officer Spouses Club. The money will be applied to an enhancement project at the library providing an area for young adults. We are very grateful for this grant. In addition to the grant, the Shirley Selepes Memorial Fund will also contribute toward this project. Donations are being accepted in memory of our longtime President, Shirley Selepes, who was a big force in our group and in our community. Gifts can be mailed or dropped off at the library for this memorial fund.
The Library announces the summer reading program for preschoolers, teens, and adults. Registration will take place beginning June 18th. The theme is “Libraries Rock” and many exciting events are being planned. More information to come on the fun!
The wishlist at the Library includes glue sticks, marker ( especially bright colors), glitter glue, paperclips, pencils/pens, construction paper, colored copy paper, clear contact paper, and staplers. Any donations are appreciated. By the way, the clear contact paper is used to cover new paperbacks.
Did you know that we are part of a regional library system called the Craven-Pamlico-Carteret ( CPC) Regional Library System? We are one library of ten who belong to this system. This regional library system is one of 12 in the state of NC. Regional library systems coordinate many services for our library including interlibrary loans, payroll, cataloguing, technical support, collaboration of large purchase such as Overdrive and other databases. Regional Systems are critical to library services.
SAVE THE DATE of August 19th when a longtime friend Eddie Ellis will be in Havelock! This will be a ticketed event. More information will follow.
And finally, the Friends of the Library will be voting on a change to the bylaws. Article VIII, Section 2: Proposed change will read “Any dues received after July 1st will be applied to the following year.” This change will be voted on at the June meeting on June 20th at 9:30am.
Happy reading! Luann
